How to Install 3rd Gen Tacoma Front Recovery Points (2016–2023)
Installing the Bonobo Products Front Billet Recovery Points on your 2016–2023 Toyota Tacoma is quick and straightforward. These recovery points are designed as a direct bolt-on upgrade that uses the factory mounting location and OEM hardware. No cutting, drilling, or modifications are required.
Whether you're getting your Tacoma ready for the trail or simply upgrading its appearance, this guide will walk you through the installation process.
Vehicle Compatibility
This installation guide applies to:
- Toyota Tacoma (2016–2023)
- 3rd Generation Tacoma
Tools Required
- Socket wrench
- Appropriate socket for the factory mounting bolt
- Torque wrench (recommended)
Step 1 – Locate the Factory Mounting Bolt
Begin by locating the factory mounting bolt on the front of your Tacoma where the recovery point will be installed.

Step 2 – Remove the OEM Bolt
Using a socket wrench, remove the factory mounting bolt. Set the bolt aside, as it will be reused to install the new billet recovery point.

Step 3 – Install the Billet Recovery Point
Position the Bonobo Products Billet Recovery Point so it aligns with the factory mounting hole.
Insert the original OEM bolt through the recovery point and thread it in by hand. This helps ensure the bolt starts correctly and prevents cross-threading.

Step 4 – Tighten the Bolt
Tighten the OEM bolt until the recovery point is securely mounted.
Do not overtighten the bolt. If you have a torque wrench, tighten the hardware according to Toyota's factory torque specifications.
Once installed, verify that the recovery point sits flush against the mounting surface and does not move.
